Berberine

Berberine

Berberine has been used in China for over a thousand years. This nature identical molecule is found in in a number of plant species including barberry (Berberis vulgaris), Chinese goldthread (Coptis chinensis), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), tree turmeric (Berberis aristata), and Oregon grape (Berberis aquifolium). Other common names for this active alkaloid are Berberine Alkaloid, Berberine HCl or Daruharidra.

Longevity Benefits of Berberine (BBR)

The benefits of Berberine are quite numerous and impressive. This nature identical molecule nudges many favorable cellular reactions in favor of longevity. Damage to the epigenome is at the heart of the aging process. I am now introducing another component to look at that needs nudging to promote optimum cellular homeostasis, the health of your cells: AMPK activation and how it favorably signals Sirtuins, NAD+ and Mitochondria. AMPK is one of our three longevity genes that are amenable to manipulation.

AMPK – A Cellular Energy Sensor

  • AMPK is an extremely important enzyme that facilitates DNA repair, suppresses oxidative stress, regulates cellular homeostasis, slows aging, coordinates cellular pathways and coordinates energy demands.
  • AMPK activity declines with age.

Berberine on a cellular level has been shown to:

  • Activate and or increase AMPK
  • Maintain DNA
  • Activates Sirtuins, which functions to maintain your epigenome
  • Inhibit mTORC1, which is associated with longevity and autophagy
  • Increases NAD+
  • Serve as an antioxidant
  • Enhance cellular maintenance mechanisms
  • Reduce senescent cells by promoting cellular homeostasis
  • Promote cognitive function
  • Function as a hypoglycemic

Longevity

Berberine is a hypoglycemic and has many other beneficial effects. Not only has Berberine been shown to have positive longevity effects on your cellular reactions, but it has also demonstrated longevity benefits in animal models. In animal models, it has been shown to extend the life of roundworms, Drosophila and mice. Within eight hours of taking some hypoglycemics, the aging of red blood stem cells is reversed. So, the benefits of hypoglycemics seem to be well established. The benefits of this class of natural bioactive elements should be enjoyed by all.

Without cellular maintenance, we see tissue aging, cellular death, senescence and subsequently contributes to visible wrinkles on your skin. Berberine is an excellent addition to promote longevity since it promotes cellular maintenance by increasing AMPK activity and promoting cellular maintenance(autophagy).

The benefits of oral Berberine supplementation are numerous. Berberine (BBR) has been extensively studied in the laboratory and live experiments and has been shown to aid in the regulation of the cell cycle and cell autophagy (cellular maintenance), and promote cell apoptosis (cell death) when damage to the genome is identified.

Review

NMN works on the epigenome to maintain cellular, tissue and organ function. When the genome and the epigenome allow for cellular senescence, Quercetin helps to eliminate those senescent cells. Berberine works at an enzymatic level to minimize oxidative stress, promote mitochondrial function and, by activating the cellular energy master switch and to further grease the cell’s ability to function efficiently. I previously referred to an invisible purposeful dance that occurs in our cells, a dance without smoke, flames or fanfare, but a beautiful dance that is so remarkably capable of promoting a healthy, athletic life. Hopefully, you are starting to see the big picture regarding why these natural bioactive elements have been chosen to be included in Rebesana.

Amplification

The oral ingestion of Berberine through its natural sources alone is not enough to cause the beneficial effects of Berberine on longevity. What is required is to amplify the amount of Berberine that you can ingest to up-regulate the beneficial effects on your cells and tissues that are associated with longevity. This is what is being done in all of the studies that have occurred and that are underway.

Berberine is one of the five natural bioactive molecules that we have selected to be included in Rebesana. Nothing should be more important than extending our biological clock and promoting a healthier and athletic life. We hope that this information will help you make an educated life choice and begin using Rebesana on a daily basis. This should be the one thing you do for yourself.
